What inspired your artist name? And where did you get the name from?
Growing up, I lived all through the SGV but I feel like I did most of my growing and maturing in West Covina. My name is Andrew, nickname Dru, hence the name WesCovDru!
What is YOUR genre?
I really can’t categorize myself into one specific genre because my versatility is so widespread. if i had to choose a few genres, I would say pop, R&B, trap soul, and rap.
How would you describe your sound/style?
My sound is very unique. one thing for sure, I know I don’t sound like anyone else. My style is also very widespread. I can do a little singing but I can also drop some crazy bars on you. when it comes to rapping, I love to rap about past experiences. I feel like it brings out the most emotion in me.
When did you start making music?
I started doing music back in 2016. I really started to chase the dream the same year. I instantly fell in love with the process of creating music. It’s crazy how it happened! My boy had heard me doing a cover on my Instagram story and told me to come to the studio and record. From there my other boy Zayce, who is now one of my main producers saw that i was recording and told me to slide into his studio. I recorded my first track that next day and it’s been history ever
Why music? Describe your passion.
Man this question runs so deep! Music has always been an underlying passion of mine. I never realized it until I started doing some soul searching. I came to a point in my life where I asked myself, “what do I love to do, that has always been a part of me, that I can see myself doing for the rest of my life”? I started watching motivational videos, reading self-help books, reconnecting with God, and really just feeding my mind nothing but positivity.
What are your goals when it comes to your music career?
My goals vary when it comes to my music career. Right now, I’m focused on making enough money through my music, to the point where music becomes my job, my business, and my foundation. I want to be able to grow my platform large enough to monetize products and create multiple incomes. I just want to be able to make music for the rest of my life and get paid to do it. Long term, I would love to use my platform to inspire the youth because they are indeed the future. I mean some billboard placements would be dope too, but if I can reach out and inspire the youth or any others chasing a dream that seems impossible, that is good enough for me.
What impact are you looking to make with your music?
I just want to spread positive messages to the world. I feel like so many people in the world are afraid to express their talents and true passions because they are afraid of what the popular people may think. Too many people are discouraged by other people’s opinions. I want to be the voice of the hidden talents! I want to make an impact on the kids and the people going through hardships that may seem never-ending. I went through a lot growing up and I’m still going through it but I’m no longer accustomed to the opinions of irrelevant people. I want to impact not only the world but the minority. I need people to understand that it’s okay to be doubted, it’s okay to not have the support you want, if your mind and heart are in the right place, and the focus is dialed into your goals, then anything in this world is attainable.
