Meet Texas Native J Burks

J Burks is a Hip-Hop artist from Texas who creates music based on his life experiences and sheds light on what’s important to him. Not only does J Burks makes music that is catchy and a vibe, he takes his listeners on a journey of events while perfecting his craft. J Burks’s biggest accomplishment thus far would be getting a feature from G$ Lil Ronnie, who is his favorite rapper from Texas. His music video for his single “Ain’t Smoked” out now and you can get to know him below!

How would you describe your sound to someone who has not heard your music before?

 I would describe my sound as moderate tempo music that anyone can relate to. I try to switch things up a bit while staying true to myself and not fabricating any of my stories. 

Out of all your projects that you have released, which is your favorite?

I have 2 singles and 1 EP out right now. My favorite song would have to be “For The Brand,”  because I feel that is the best song on the EP and I like the way I changed the tempo between the first and second verse, and that song has gotten the best feedback so far. 

Where do you draw inspiration from when tapping into your creative side?

I draw my inspiration from personal experience, I take pride in the authenticity of the music because while studying the game, I notice people respect the ones who are not faking the real them.  

Who is your biggest motivation?

My family is the biggest motivation from my personal life, my musical motivation is Nipsey Hussle. 

What is the best advice you have received?

The best piece of advice I received was to respect the game and never go against the grain. I got that from my brother. 

What is one goal you hope to achieve?

One goal of mines is to have another EP and about 5 visuals out by next year, to keep expanding my catalog and growing my fan base.
