Musical Artist Sean Cole Talks Inspiration Behind Pursuing Music Career

Sean Cole’s “Ma Drip” visual is out now on all platforms!

The visual for “Ma Drip,” opens with Sean entering an underground card game where he meets a pair of high-rollers, and as the beat drops, the card game ensues. The visual transitions from the card game, solo shots of Sean in the empty card room, him and his girl at a photo shoot, and them, driving around the city with the top-down.

Check out his interview and view the visual below.

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?
Seeing how well people respond to my music after a performance. I put my story, my upbringing, my struggles, my success, my journey, my life into the music and put it out there for my fans to connect with it. And yeah I get feedback from them through streams and social media, but it’s different when the love is live. Especially when it’s from people who have been in the industry, you know people I look up to. A few years ago I performed my song Foreign at Jamie Foxx house, and this was a major moment for me. As a young, up and coming artist, unsigned, the experience was so validating. I felt inspired, like I could move any room, and that’s what I always aim to do with my music. My job is to move you.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music, and what inspires you?
I love music because, I love the expression of it. It allows me to tell my story and connect with others. And if you tell a good story, you really leave a piece of you with them. You know I want people to have memories with my music. That’s why I made Timeless. 50 years from now, I want y’all to feel connected to my old stuff even as you fall in love with the new.

What inspires me? my mom and my siblings who still live in Liberia. My dad and I were the only ones who got to come to America. I want to build her dream house, put her community on.  My dad of course, but you know ha-ha.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
Oh man, I really love outdoor sports. I recently got into snowboarding. I love the rush. I try to go as often as my schedule will let me. I also love bike riding, playing basketball, and working out. Active things like that. I might need some encouraging words from friends and family before I do it but I’d like to try zip-lining too. And if I’m being low-key, I enjoy a nice calm evening, a nice glass of wine and some jazz music.

Who are some of your main musical influences?
I feel like it changes because music changes. I grew up on African church music hahaha I was heavily in Sunday School so I guess that’s my first influence hahaha but like when I first started listening to other types of music and exploring my own taste of music Jay Z and Aaliyah were big influences for me. They were two of the main artists I knew when we first came to America so they are super foundational.

Another influence is Pink Floyd and I’m not going to lie I had a 50 cent/g unit phase. Also Foster The People, Kid cudi, Nas, DMX, Drake, little Brother, Juelz Santana, Kanye West, 2 chainz. I just listened to a lot of different music… And I have a lot of different influences.

What are some of your music career goals for the future?
I would love to have a huge-festival in Liberia, build my mom her dream house, take care of my family, win at least 8 Grammys, win a NAACP award and tour all over Africa and Europe … just to name a few things. I’d also like to work with my idols.

Tell us about the project that you are promoting. What is it about? Is it a single or EP? Also, what is the name of the last project you released?
I’m dropping The music video for my single “Ma Drip”. The creation of the music video was lots of fun and different from my other music video. The music video is based on a movie and I wonder if you can guess it ! Ma Drip is from my latest project, Timeless. My Timeless album is a unique body of work that showcases my different skills and my versatility and a little part of my story.

What has the response been like to that project?
Really good, really positive. Everybody loves how there is something for everybody on Timeless. It’s cool to see which song is who’s favorite. I have been receiving so many positive responses on “Ma Drip” too.

What are some projects you’ve done in the past that you are most proud of and why?
The last project I did was titled, What a Great Year and the song I’m most proud of on that project’s called understand Me. It gives people a little bit of a look inside of who I am, what are some of my likings, some of the things I believe in. Another project i am most proud of is the song titled Costly and the music video, the backstory of creating the music video and the song is so amazing i can’t wait to share it with you soon.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?Currently, I’m promoting my new Tape, Timeless. Making sure it reaches as many people as possible. Y’all should definitely check it out. Also I’m always always working on new music though. You gotta stay tuned to see what i drop next, i must say it will be different then what i have already had out.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music?
My music is for the people who have big dreams, and may not have people that believe in them, the voiceless people who need their voice heard. I represent them. I want them to be inspired by my music, Success, love, loyalty, anything. through my music my fans will learn more about my culture and my roots.
