MEET ROMECAT: HOUSTON’S RISING RAPPER

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, rising rapper Romecat hopes to make himself known both statewide and internationally. His artist name Romecat stems from his nickname Rome accompanied by his love for pretty women. Romecat describes his image as “…a flawed individual with a stylish look and smooth charm you can latch onto.” As for his genre or style of music, he says it is hip hop and R&B with a smooth sound. “I want my music to take your mind away from the stress of the world and calm your nerves with the entrancing groove that can also get you hype if it’s a turn-up direction I choose to venture in.” The up-and-coming star says that his talent is rooted in smooth aggression rap with a touch of singing if necessary; He emphasizes his desire to be viewed as a rapper rather than a singer.
Romecat is inspired by both hip hop and R&B including artists such as Drake, Snoop Dogg, The Weeknd, Aaliyah, Usher, Michael Jackson, and many others; He follows this up by saying if he could collaborate with anyone right now it would be Brandy Norwood. As for his personal motivation, he thanks his lord and savior, saying “God thank you for waking me up in the morning to have the chance again to get myself right.”

The rapper is currently under Shonen Records writing his own music and working with producer and engineer King Myle$. He feels as though he is in the unknown developmental stage of his career, only having been in the game for a short while. He has been making music since middle school as a hobby but realized after graduating college in 2020 that his purpose was meant for more than a regular job. This journey, however, has not been easy for him. He describes “…growing apart from friends, people not showing up to support an event related to your music, lying to people about your rap dream because you felt they would look at you silly…almost broke from investing in yourself, not sounding right on song recording(s) so you want to quit…”
Despite the struggles, Romecat remains in the industry for his love of music and to experience the highlights of his career. Outside of his career however, he enjoys playing pool, exercising, watching YouTube, seeing nature, and going to Smoothie King. These personal pleasures help him through obstacles by allowing himself time away from stress. The rapper takes this advice from his cousin who stated, “you’re on a mission with tunnel vision for achieving your goal but self-sabotaging yourself by not taking a little break time to enjoy life.”
Right now, Romecat’s primary focus is pushing his single “Bachelor,” his current personal favorite based on it being a good representation of his music style. Additionally, elevating himself financially in order to support his music is an important goal he would like to achieve. Going into 2023, Romecat hopes to gain more supporters, eliminate distractions, release more music, and become closer to finishing his album ‘SMOOTH.’
When asked if there were any pieces of advice Romecat wished he had been given, he says, “I wish I knew the advice to embrace who you naturally are and sound, don’t try to fit in with trends but rather set it to stand the test of time.” Therefore, when giving advice to others he said, “…don’t live in fear of being judged by others, do whatever makes you happy and stick to things beneficial for your life” As a closing message, Romecat says to his fans, “I love the feeling of love and I love all who support me” and that he wants peace, love, and prosperity in his future.
